Detail the difference between SDI camera and HD network camera

What is an SDI camera

A Serial Digital Interface (SDI) camera is a video camera that uses the SDI interface for video transmission. SDI is a digital signal transmission interface standard commonly used in drones, video conferencing and image inspection. SDI cameras transmit digital video signals through the SDI interface to other devices such as monitors, video recorders, or video converters.

SDI cameras have high definition, high quality video output, usually supporting 720P or 1080P resolution. They use CCD or CMOS image sensors, which have good photographic performance and can obtain clear and delicate images under different lighting conditions. SDI cameras also support real-time image capture, which can provide high frame rate video output.

Because SDI cameras use digital signal transmission, the transmission distance is limited, generally about 100 meters. In addition, the data volume of SDI cameras is large, and the transmission process does not go through codec compression, which brings certain challenges to data storage and transmission.

SDI camera has been widely used in UAV, video conferencing and image detection fields, its high definition and high quality video output, as well as stable and reliable digital signal transmission, making it an important tool for professional image shooting and transmission.

What is a network camera

A network camera is a camera that transmits and monitors video through a network connection. It uses IP (Internet Protocol) technology to digitize video signals and transmit them to other devices such as computers, mobile phones, tablets and other terminal devices for real-time monitoring or recording.

Network cameras can provide high-definition video output, usually supporting 720P, 1080P or even higher resolution video capture and transmission. Through the network connection, the user can remotely access and control the network camera, no matter where you are, as long as there is a network connection, you can view the monitoring picture in real time. Network cameras usually use video compression algorithms (such as H.264) to compress video signals to reduce bandwidth and storage space.

HD network camera

Network cameras are widely used in various application scenarios, such as home security, commercial monitoring, public safety, traffic monitoring and other fields. Its flexibility, scalability and remote access make it an important part of modern security monitoring systems.

The difference between SDI camera and network camera:

Photosensitive performance: SDI cameras mostly use CCD imaging chips, which have better photosensitive performance, especially at night monitoring effect. Hd network cameras generally use CMOS imaging chips, and the night monitoring effect is relatively poor.

Video quality: Both can reach the level of 720P/1080P, but SDI cameras have higher resolution, richer colors and higher definition images, which can meet the needs of high-definition surveillance.

Video transmission distance: SDI camera transmission distance is limited, generally about 100 meters. Hd network cameras are transmitted through the network, and the transmission distance is more flexible.

Data storage: The amount of data collected by the front end of the SDI camera is large, and the transmission process is not compressed by codecs, which brings challenges to data storage. The HD network camera uses H.264 compression algorithm to save transmission bandwidth and storage space.

To sum up, HD network cameras and SDI cameras have their own characteristics and application areas, they are complementary rather than replacing the relationship. Network cameras still have room for improvement in video compression algorithm optimization, and SDI cameras need to break through the transmission distance limit. No matter what kind of camera, you need to continuously improve the basic performance requirements such as low illumination and wide dynamics.
